Nepal Premier League (NPL) franchise Kathmandu Gurkhas has added England leg-spinner Nathan Sowter to their squad. Known for his standout performances in English domestic cricket, including the T20 Blast, Sowter is recognized for his ability to turn games around with his economical bowling.
The Gurkhas expressed confidence in their strengthened bowling attack with Sowter’s inclusion. Team CEO Sandesh Katwal shared his excitement, saying, “He brings invaluable experience to our team. His skills will be crucial for us, and we are thrilled to welcome him.”
Sowter, equally enthusiastic, remarked, “Joining Kathmandu is an honor for me. I’m excited to perform in front of the passionate Nepali fans. Let’s make this season unforgettable.”
The 32-year-old bowler, originally from Australia, played for New South Wales U-23 before showcasing his talent in tournaments like The Hundred, International League T20, Vitality Blast, and the Caribbean Premier League. With 154 wickets in 143 T20 matches at an economy rate of around 7.5, Sowter brings significant experience to the Gurkhas.
Sowter is the fifth foreign signing for Kathmandu this season, joining England’s Stephen Eskinazi and Dan Douthwaite, the Netherlands’ Michael Levitt, and Namibia’s Gerard Erasmus.
The team also boasts a strong domestic lineup, including Bhim Sharki, Shahab Alam, Rashid Khan, Dipesh Kandel, Krishna Karki, Sumit Maharjan, Shankar Rana, Raju Rijal, Pratik Shrestha, BiBek KC, and marquee player Karan KC.
The Nepal Premier League kicks off on November 30 in Kathmandu, promising an exciting season for cricket fans.
